It features enough eye candy to keep most kids engaged and boasts just enough heft that adults won’t spend 100 minutes looking at their watches.

It’s passably sweet entertainment but, just as it’s unlikely to stick in the craw, it won’t hold a place in one’s memory, either.

Because "Last Night in Soho" starts out so strongly, it makes the lackluster final act all the more discouraging.

MPAA Rating: "PG"
Genre: Animated
Director: Enrico Casarosa
Cast: Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman, Marco Barricelli, Saverino Raimondo, Maya Rudolph, Jim Gaffigan

The message is laudable and Luca’s heart is in the right place but its sledgehammer tactics make parts of the movie feel more like a homily than summer entertainment.

U.S. Release Date: 2020-11-06
MPAA Rating: "R" (Violence, Profanity)
Genre: Thriller
Director: Thomas Bezucha
Cast: Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Lesley Manville, Kayli Carter, Jeffrey Donovan, Will Brittain, Booboo Stewart

The second half, when the thriller elements kick into high gear, is considerably better than the dour, meandering first half.

MPAA Rating: "R" (Sexual Content, Nudity, Profanity)
Genre: Drama
Director: William Olsson
Cast: Alexandra Daddario, Takehiro Hira, Carice van Houten, Andrew Rothney, Misuzu Kanno

The film suffers from an overly-familiar narrative – other films have told with greater power similar stories of lost, self-destructive souls.

MPAA Rating: "R" (Profanity, Sexual Content, Violence)
Genre: Action/Comedy
Director: Michael Showalter
Cast: Kumail Nanjiani, Issa Rae

More successful when focusing on the unlikely romance between its stars than the silly and underwhelming murder mystery.

Despite the occasionally uneven pacing and some dramatically inert moments, the historical elements mesh effectively with the fictionalized action-oriented ones.

Kids will enjoy it more than adults, although there’s enough to keep older viewers from zoning out (at least most of the time).

Run Time: 1:48

MPAA Rating: "R" (Violence, Profanity, Sexual Content, Brief Nudity)
Genre: Thriller
Director: Tim Hunter

Although the screenplay knows how to set things up, it fails to deliver down the stretch, leaving us with a by-the-numbers resolution.
