Johnson, Statham, and Kirby are tremendous together and (bloated running time aside) things are sufficiently loud and flashy to attract a large audience.

Run Time: 1:37
U.S. Release Date: 2019-07-26
MPAA Rating: "NR" (Nothing Offensive)
Genre: Drama
Director: Shelagh McLeod
Cast: Richard Dreyfuss, Colm Feore, Krista Bridges, Lyriq Bent, Richie Lawrence, Graham Greene

The film’s first half is promising but it is let down by the rushed ending and confusing changes in character motivations.

Made by a movie-lover for movie-lovers. And even those who don’t qualify may still enjoy the hell out of it.

There are no real characters here, just quickly sketched stick figures in too-tight costumes that deliver a few solid laughs but not much more.

Run Time: 1:38
U.S. Release Date: 2019-07-12
MPAA Rating: "PG"
Genre: Drama/Comedy
Director: Lulu Wang
Cast: Awkwafina, Tzi Ma, Diana Lin, Shuzhen Zhou, Han Chen, Hong Lu, Yongbo Jian

Wang has crafted something that is both appealing and emotionally resonant.

Run Time: 1:58
U.S. Release Date: 2019-07-19
MPAA Rating: "PG"
Genre: Animated/Adventure
Director: Jon Favreau
Cast: Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Beyoncé, James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Oliver, Alfre Woodard

Although it qualifies as solid entertainment for a 2019 family with its technically superior look, the film struggles mightily to find the magic that came so easily to its predecessor.

Run Time: 1:28
U.S. Release Date: 2019-07-12
MPAA Rating: "R" (Violence, Gore, Profanity)
Genre: Horror/Thriller
Director: Alexandre Aja
Cast: Kaya Scodelario, Barry Pepper

An old-fashioned B-grade monster movie made with 2019 technology.

The movie doesn’t do anything well and it’s an open question why anyone would pay money to see a reworking of a premise that offers so little.

A much different breed of horror than one typically finds in multiplexes, trading in jump scares for something longer and lingering.

Run Time: 2:00
U.S. Release Date: 2019-06-07
MPAA Rating: "R" (Profanity, Nudity)
Genre: Drama/Comedy
Director: Joe Talbot
Cast: Jimmie Fails, Jonathan Majors, Danny Glover, Tichina Arnold, Rob Morgan, Mike Epps, Jamal Trulove

Even though Talbot opts for a quasi-humorous approach to the subject matter, the comedic edge can’t hide an underlying sadness about what this all means.
