Yeah seriously. I didn't want to criticize cause I, you know, always do, but don't you enjoy making decisions for yourself?

You know, criticism is usually taken better if it comes from a base of knowledge and comprehension.

Oh? I was trying to educate you, so obviously, I failed.

Zing! I feel so burned. I'm so sad, in fact, that i'm going to write you a latter.

Dear R. Rok,

Whatever issues I have (and there are many: I'm often arrogant, and I sometimes give off the impression of not considering/appreciating the opinion of those I'm debating with), a lack of knowledge is not one of them. I'm sorry I piss you off, but it doesn't display a lack of "comprehension" when I opine that a person should watch a scene for himself instead of taking the words of others.

Wubbies,

James

Sorry, the mistake I made was in assuming you were capable of avoiding being a condescending jackass who in actuality isn't nearly as clever as he'd like others to think he is.

You yak about watching hundreds of movies a year, but your understanding of them has been shown to be quite minimal, as evidenced in your failed attempts to point out "plot holes" in The Dark Knight and The Untouchable. It's not exactly like those two films are vague artsy-fartsy flicks. How about the discussion we were having in the last inane thread you started about enjoying films mainly for the nudity? I don't recall seeing any replies from you after the first page.

You remind me of the proverbial college graduate who can't read, except that you're boastful about it. The proof? The threads you start relating to things like how many a films a year/month/day people watch. Do those threads actually add to any furthering of others' knowledge of films? Nope, they just provide you with a platform to thump your chest about how great you are because you watch so many f@#%# films. You know, if watching that many films means one wouldn't understand a single f*#%## one of them, I'll stick to being choosy about what films I watch. Quite frankly, at times I pity you because it seems like your affirmation of your own existence seems to rely on others' acknowledgement of your accomplishment of watching tons more films that most people can.

To be honest: I don't dislike that you've watched so many films- in fact, I'm a little envious that your circumstances allow you to do so. It's just the tone of self-importance that pervades your every post in these forums that I have a problem with. Learn some humility, and I'll stop poking holes in your arguments. Deal?

I case can be made that the on-topic posts are the terrible scenes in this good movie of Kunz vs. Ragnarok?

But I guess I must make a verdict....both of you's are assholes and I will be spinning this thread off into the open forum.

R. Rok:

Here is a list of every thread I've created:
    1. The Searchers: why do people love it so?
    2. Game Where Your Name One Letter You've Seen for Every Letter of the Alphabet
    3. What's your favorite movie year?
    4. Least-worthy Best Picture nods, 1990-present
    5. Defense of the Star Rating System
    6. We're Smart: Let's Fix the Oscars
    7. Moves you *hate* with a fiery burning passion
    8. What version of Cinema Paradiso should I watch?
    9. Top 10 of the Seventies
    10. The State of Modern Horror: How Did it Come to This?
    11. How Many of the IMDB Top 250 Have You Seen
    12. Movie you like/find worthy that everyone else hates
    13. What made you really get into movies?
    14. District 9: Third Act Collapse?

    24. Do You Keep a List of Movies You Watch?
    25. Great Movie Death Scenes
    26. What's Your 2009 Top 10?
    27. What's the most movies you've seen in...
    28. Movie you enjoyed primarily because of nudity

You know? That's a pretty good list. Without being too boastful, I think I spurred a lot of conversation with those topics. You know what else? Only 2 topics could conceivably go towards your claim that I only am here to tout my ego. And let's look at my initial post in the only thread I started that really goes towards your point: the one where I asked what's the most movies you've ever seen in a day/week/month/year:

"For those of you who keep track of such things, let's throw down. What's your record for new movies (i.e. ones you've never seen before) watched in...

Any gaudy numbers out there? Let's hope Rob doesn't show up and disgrace us all with his ludicrously high totals"

Wow. I sure sound super-arrogant and condescending. Now what else do you say? Oh. Right. I'm incapable of making cogent observations. Look. You're a fan of The Dark Knight who has what you think is a plausible defense of the "location of everyone in the universe" deus ex machina machine. You sound like you're used to trotting out your defense, so you're not going to be convinced by me. That doesn't make me a poor student of film: we're just firmly entrenched in opposite camps.

As for the recent argument we had in the nudity forum, I gave up being I thought the argument was inane. I started the thread for fun and you come in and say the following:
"I feel if nudity is the primary objective for one's enjoyment of a film, one should just look to good ol' Internet porn"
I responded with (paraphrasing): "Well gee that's a dumb comment, that wasn't an option for a lot of us back in 1998"
to which you said "All films with nudity were made in or before 1998? This is the stupid quote"

Clearly we were arguing at cross-purposes, so after a futile attempt to explain myself I just stopped.

Look, I can be a little arrogant at times, but I know my way around films and, frankly, I've started and contributed to a lot of good conversation around here. You're the only one whose feathers I've ruffled, and (to be honest) I did it semi-intentionally. When I was relatively new to the forum I made some comment which you ignored completely even though it was germane to your post. I said "Way to ignore me completely RagnaRok" and you said "Think nothing of it: I clearly didn't." That struck me as unbelievably mean, so after that I was more likely to disagree disrespectfully with you than any other person here. But now that we've had our fight, I'll try to grow up a little

Love = Wuv = Wub = Wubbies (There ya go PeachyPete!)
James

PS: The Untouchables is predicated on huge plot holes. I knew that even when I was a wee lad and didn't watch MILLIONS OF MOVIES A YEAR BECAUSE I NEED AFFIRMATION EVEN THOUGH MOST PEOPLE HERE HAVE SEEN FAR MORE

*speaking in a monotone golf announcer voice, Stiefmo offers the following.

You gotta like what James is doing here. He's giving his side, trying to make ammends to end the debate, but not really saying i'm sorry. To quote the afore mentioned Dark Knight, this is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. Rag's next post is going to have to be equally as pragmatic, while not giving in to James. Let's watch this sweet ballet play out.

The very fact that you brought up every thread you started shows how seriously you take my statements about the tone of your posts. Good, hopefully this will mark a new beginning- I'm gonna trust you to hold to what you said about growing up a little. As for myself- I'll stick to shooting the s*** with you and everyone here about movies.

P.S.: Patrick, please don't remove James' last post in the nudity thread- there are some seriously good shots of Paz in that link.

Alright in the spirit of across-the-aisle cooperation and the end to bipartisan bickering, we should agree on a movie. Sure we've already come together (and I use that phrase deliberately) over Paz Vega's assets, but this is a film forum, not a boobie forum, so we must agree on a film. And I've decided it shall be Face/Off, for I remembered that you posted in my thread on Great Movie Death Scenes

"Ok, I can think of some that I liked: Face Off: Gina Gershon's character added a touch of poignancy by asking the disguised agent Archer to avoid letting her child grow to be a criminal like her before her last breath"

And you know what? When I was 12 I thought that scene was pretty much bar none the most poignant scene on film. Seriously. Obviously I've changed since then, but even if we disagree a lot and I'm a cocky asshole and you're a morose whiner, we'll always have Gina Gershon....

Wait, I'm stirring the pot here now. James did you just compare Rag's opinions about film to yours as a 12 year old? This is never going to end! 100 posts here we come.
