Post Viewing Journal -- 2015
Just a few hours till the end of the month in New Zealand, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling. Managed 17 this month (including a number in the cinema), which is more than I thought given the very fine summer weather this month (clear skies with with ~30°C temps most days = 86 F). Should really be spending more time outside.
Also, so much for my new year's resolution to watch more older classics  .

January

Thanks, Nitrium.
1/1 The One I Love (8.5, 2014. Good indie film and available for streaming on Netflix)
1/2 A Night at the Opera (8.5)
1/2 A Day at the Races (5.5)
1/3 Carry on Constable (6.0)
1/17 The Official Story (9.0, 1985. Great film.)
1/18 Birdman (8.5 of 10)
1/18 Selma (7.5 of 10)
1/19 American Sniper (7.5 of 10)
1/19 Foreign Correspondent (8.5 of 10. Great and chilling speech at the end.)
1/23 Walk Cheerfully (8 of 10. Silent Ozu, a film noir that could easily be remade in America)
1/24 The Theory of Everything (7.5 of 10)
1/24 Whiplash (8, I guess. A hard movie to rate, but I was really absorbed by it.)
1/26 Tokyo Chorus (8 of 10. Silent Ozu. In a way, Ozu's "Modern Times.)
1/27 Belle de Jour (5.5, but great ending).
1/31 Hue and Cry (1947; the first Ealing comedy is sort of British Dead End Kids movie. 6.5)
1/31 The Monuments Men (7.0)

You can tell when Christmas vacation ended. Best film is The Official Story, followed by Birdman, A Night at the Opera and Foreign Correspondent.

Post Re: Viewing Journal -- 2015
Another solid month for me (19), mainly due to me desperately trying to catch up on the Oscar nominees before the ceremony. Probably includes both a Top 5er for the entire year (A Story of Yonosuke) and a bottom 5er (if not outright bottom) (Warrioress).

Still Alice (2014) 7/10
Dusk (2010) 7/10

Post Re: Viewing Journal -- 2015
This month's been pretty pathetic, since I did my pre-Oscar viewing in January, and I had to catch up with season 2 of Ripper Street, No outstanding films, though I did like Kingsman
2/9 Sweet Sixteen (Ken Loach, 6.0)
2/14 Kingsman: The Secret Service (8.0)
2/23 Topaze (the 1933 Barrymore film. 6.5) Doesn't really get good until the end.
2/23 Counselor at Law (another Barrymore, rewatch and 5.5. One of those frenetic films that takes forever to get to the point, which is not all that interesting)
2/24 Corn's a Poppin (1956, 5.0) Cheapo production that is only of note because Robert Altman was one of the writers, and some of the songs ("On the Way to Mars" in particular) are really good. Little Cora, who was "introduced" in this film, deserved a substantial career. She was a talented singer and had a fair amount of acting ability which tended to be compromised in favor of cutesy scenes. Still, truly amateurish acting (outside of Cora), direction and production limit this to a 5.0.
2/28 Disraeli (1929, 8.0)

I also tried to watch Mike Leigh's Life is Sweet, which has a delightful opening scene, but which I had to give up after 20 minutes because I couldn't understand what anybody was saying, which made it pretty hard to follow the story. Probably a good movie, but I lost my patience. Criterion, if you're going to do these veddy British films, provide captions.

Pretty weak month in terms of quantity and quality. I was more focused on TV shows this month, what with House of Cards coming out, as well as most of the shows I follow (Justified, The Americans, The Walking Dead, etc.) being in full force, which would explain the quantity. As for the quality, well, Animal was my wife's idea, and she regretted it also, while we both thought Rosewater would be much better.

With 21 films this is the best month for me in a long time, with mostly pretty good films too (15 with 7/10 score or higher). I've started playing the epic mega RPG Pillars of Eternity (PC game) that is shaping up to deliver Baldur's Gate levels of time suck, so I expect my April total will be a lot lower. Also all new Game of Thrones soon.

To my surprise this turned out to be a very good month with 22 films watched (mainly a result of particularly bad weather, that kept me inside more than usual). Saw one whole movie not made after 1990, but that's still better than most months.

April
The Big Sleep (1946) 7/10
Session 9 (2001) 7/10
The Tall Man (2012) 7/10
The Killing Field (2014) 5/10
Jupiter Ascending (2015) 8/10
Inherent Vice (2014) 5/10
Night Moves (2013) 6/10
Fido (2006) 7/10
The Voices (2014) 8/10
Chocolate Strawberry Vanilla (2014) 6/10
Tell No One (2006) 7/10
Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (2014) 8/10
The Little Death (2014) 7/10

2 Days in New York (2012) 5/10
2 Days in Paris (2007) 7/10
Cake (2014) 7/10
Obvious Child (2014) 5/10

4/5 Three Caballeros (6.5 of 10, but very good in parts)
4/6 Through a Glass Darkly (4.5)
4/8 How to Train Your Dragon II (rewatch. 8.5 of 10)
4/11 Ballad of a Soldier (9 of 10)
4/12 Woman in Gold (6.5 of 10)
4/13 The Rape of Europa (8.5 of 10)
4/15 A Matter of Life and Death (Stairway to Heaven) (9 of 10)
4/18 In Cold Blood (8 of 10)

I tried and failed to get through "Cranes are Flying". Annoying camerawork and sound.
I spent last week watching season 1 of Daredevil, so no movies.
