I can make a compelling case that this is the best version of Pinocchio to-date, and that includes the Disney classic.

Funnier than almost any other 2022 film and more entertaining than many of the bloated would-be blockbusters dotting the release schedule.

Run Time: 2:03
U.S. Release Date: 2022-10-26
MPAA Rating: "R" (Profanity, Nudity)
Genre: Drama/Thriller
Director: Tobias Lindholm
Cast: Jessica Chastain, Eddie Redmayne, Noah Emmerich, Nnamdi Asomugha, Kim Dickens

Both actors give the roles their full attention and that, at least, is enough to keep the viewer engaged when the script fails – something that happens with disappointing frequency.

The filmmakers do a good enough job of crafting exciting moments but the lack of a compelling storyline keeps the movie from attaining escape velocity.

Run Time: 1:30
U.S. Release Date: 2022-07-15
MPAA Rating: "R" (Violence, Profanity)
Genre: Thriller
Director: Eli Horowitz
Cast: Winona Ryder, Dermot Mulroney, John Gallagher Jr., Owen Teague, Brianne Tju

Stiff acting, an increasingly hard-to-swallow storyline, and an atrociously bad ending torpedo "Gone in the Night", making it unworthy of even a streamed view.

Run Time: 1:36
U.S. Release Date: 2022-06-17
MPAA Rating: "R" (Sexual Content, Nudity, Profanity)
Genre: Drama/Comedy
Director: Sophie Hyde
Cast: Emma Thompson, Daryl McCormack

The screenplay, which effectively balances comedic moments with dramatic ones, has some uneven moments, but Thompson’s performance never wavers.
