MPAA Rating: "NR"
Genre: Thriller
Director: Alfred Hitchcock
Cast: Joseph Cotten, Teresa Wright, Henry Travers, Patricia Collinge, Hume Cronyn, Macdonald Carey, Wallace Ford

Although a bona fide classic, the story so implausible that it holds together only because of the directorial skill of Hitchcock and the top-notch work of actors Joseph Cotten and Teresa Wright.

With the exception of a few jump scares, this is not especially scary, and the book-to-movie condensations cause the occasionally incoherent plot to feel rushed.

A story that starts with promise and seems to be going somewhere devolves into a formulaic disappointment.

"Notorious" has stood the test of time and deserves the labels of a classic and one of the most formidable early American productions of Alfred Hitchcock.

There are times when it can be fun to revisit a cheesy, poorly-made movie from another era, but this is not one of those instances.

Never remotely scary but there are some solid laughs, a decent amount of over-the-top gore, and a grotesque scene featuring a zombie penis.

Although the sensibilities of director Tim Burton are offbeat and his humor verges on the macabre, there is an oddball charm to the proceedings.

Feels like a “greatest hits” album, tracking some of the most important volcanoes that the couple visited/investigated during the quarter century of their partnership.

Blessed with the right script and cast, Seidelman crafts the perfect tone – a grounded whimsy that allows the fairy tale elements to take flight.

Helped to define not only the filmography of Andy Sidaris, but the 80s exploitation subgenre that became popular in drive-ins and video stores.
