The message is laudable and Luca’s heart is in the right place but its sledgehammer tactics make parts of the movie feel more like a homily than summer entertainment.

The second half, when the thriller elements kick into high gear, is considerably better than the dour, meandering first half.

More successful when focusing on the unlikely romance between its stars than the silly and underwhelming murder mystery.

Despite the occasionally uneven pacing and some dramatically inert moments, the historical elements mesh effectively with the fictionalized action-oriented ones.

Kids will enjoy it more than adults, although there’s enough to keep older viewers from zoning out (at least most of the time).

Although the screenplay knows how to set things up, it fails to deliver down the stretch, leaving us with a by-the-numbers resolution.

An ensemble of solid performances with some affecting moments is ultimately undone by a storyline that treads too-common ground for American indie films.

With too much material to fit into a 141-minute movie, there are times when the approach feels superficial.

To the extent that the movie’s primary purpose is to provide 90 minutes of “sound and fury, signifying nothing,” "London Has Fallen" accomplishes its goal.
