MPAA Rating: "NR"
Genre: Drama
Director: Yasujiro Ozu
Cast: Chishu Ryu, Shima Iwashita, Keiji Sada, Mariko Okada, Shin’ichiro Mikami, Nobuo Nakamura, Eijiro Tono, Ryuji Kita

Almost hypnotic in its unhurried and unvarnished study of one middle-aged Japanese man and the way his perspective of life changes, the movie is deserving of the universal praise it has received.

Despite offering a riveting, high-energy origin story, "Alita" lacks a genuine ending and this leaves the narrative frustratingly unfinished.

U.S. Release Date: -
MPAA Rating: "G"
Genre: Drama
Director: Fred Zinnemann
Cast: Paul Scofield, Wendy Hiller, Leo McKern, Robert Shaw, Orson Welles, Susannah York, Nigel Davenport, John Hurt

Offers an engaging, if somewhat dry, history lesson leavened with low-key drollness and powerful acting.

There are times when the movie seems quirky for quirkiness’ sake and the lead character comes across as an assemblage of tics and traits.

U.S. Release Date: 2019-01-18
MPAA Rating: "NR" (Profanity, Sexual Content)
Genre: Drama
Director: Melissa B. Miller
Cast: Brendan Meyer, Jemima Kirke, Molly Ringwald, Brian d’Arcy James, Harley Quinn Smith, Sam McCarthy

Offers a mix of honesty and artifice - some scenes simmer with truth; others are too obviously the construct of a screenplay.

Devoid of complex plotting, comprehensive world-building, and narrative twists, "Aquaman" seems strangely out-of-step with where the genre is going.

Run Time: 1:48
U.S. Release Date: 1992-04-24
MPAA Rating: "R" (Violence, Profanity)
Genre: War/Drama
Director: Keith Gordon
Cast: Ethan Hawke, Gary Sinise, Peter Berg, Kevin Dillon, Arye Gross, Frank Whaley, John C. McGinley

Powerful without being overbearing, emphasizing the nonsensical aspects of war without dragging the viewer into the trenches and burying him/her in mud.

Although this is indeed a romance where one of the participants is stricken with an aggressive form of cancer, it isn’t just another “cancer movie.”

Even the most hard-hearted viewer is likely to have an emotional reaction; this is as much a testimony to the way Cooper tells the tale as to the story itself.

Run Time: 1:35
U.S. Release Date: 1977-04-03
MPAA Rating: "NR" (Violence)
Genre: Drama/Adventure
Director: Werner Herzog
Cast: Klaus Kinski, Helena Rojo, Del Negro, Ruy Guerra, Peter Berling, Cecilia Rivera

A compelling piece of historical fiction that lingers in the memory largely because of its lush, claustrophobic atmosphere and the towering presence of Klaus Kinski.
