Although neither scary nor creepy (despite its "horror" classification), the movie is a puzzle whose picture fails to snap into focus until the final piece is in place.

It might have helped if Green understood "The Exorcist" a little better rather than just copying from it.

An interesting film for the things it does right but, by the time the end credits rolled, I was unable to fight back a sense of frustration with its limitations.

It may rely on numerous common science fiction concepts but it blends them in a way that feels original, offering a satisfying ending that does not demand additional installments.

Although it does not qualify as a white-knuckle sort of movie, it exerts a magnetism that is difficult to turn away from.

Feels like a movie that never should have been made for a franchise that, having lain dormant for nine years, did not deserve a resurrection.

It is not a bad way to spend a couple of hours, keeping in mind that this fairy tale, like most, has only a tenuous link to reality.

The movie was the best concert film to date when it first came out, and nothing in the past forty years has toppled it from that position.

For those who enjoy their sleuthing on the big screen with impressively conceived set pieces, evocative performances, gothic twists and turns, and a drizzling of ghostly apparitions.

The characters are relatable, the humor generates laughter without becoming moronic, and the feel-good vibe is never far from the surface.
